Layout Knowledge Base

Words

A short glossary that points into the longer notes — not a second encyclopedia.

These word pages are a glossary, not the main library.

Each entry is a short, plain-language definition of one layout term, with a small figure when it helps. The job of a word page is to unblock a sentence you met in a note — not to teach the whole craft. For lessons with figures, worked examples, and pitfall sections, use the notes. For a reproducible path from idea to GDS, use the chip tutorial series.

How this differs from the notes

  • Word pages — a few hundred words; define one term; often one mini figure; link into the notes.
  • Notes & tutorials — roughly a thousand words or more; teach an idea end-to-end with figures and pitfalls.

If you are new, start with What is a layout?, What a layer is for, or Chip tutorial 1. A word that needs a gloss is linked from the note where it appears.
